Just like a novel of Stephen King
Me and my husband often make jokes about that the previous owner of our house probably buried an ex or two in the back garden.
First of all cause she was a bit scary in herself.
Second of all cause the state of the house was a bit like a ghost house when we moved in.
And third of all because the garden was a total jungle when we moved in. Almost like someone had hid something back there.
Later on we’ve heard from the neighbours two of the exes just “vanished”. Without a search party I might ad. So for someone like me who basically devourer true crime podcasts when working, the idea of it is not all that far fetched.
Anyhow…
Yesterday I was unlucky to spot a black cat lying by the side of the road. I stopped to check if it was ok. It wasn’t. It must have been hit by a car just before me cause it was still warm.
I absolutely hate seeing dead animals by the road, even more so when they are cats or dogs even. But because there are so few houses connected to this road I actually put the cat in my car and tried to find the owner.
Big mistake!
I didn’t find the owner, no one recognised a cat like this which led me to a dilemma, what do I do now? So I decided to try to find the owners via online groups and a note in the grocery store, and bury the cat in our back garden.
So I started to dig, and buried the beautiful kitty.
20 minutes later I heard a cat meow in the back of the garden like there was no tomorrow.
With the neck hair standing straight out and my heart pounding I ran back there. The grave was intact and I felt like a total idiot. At least till 1h later when I went to the green house to check on the veggies, just to see a black cat sit on the wall next to it.
Now it is starting to feel like I have released some weird ancient powers in our back garden. Things that would fit straight into a novel by Stephen King…
But first week done back on Substack, and it feels good. Not only for my own writing but also because the horse community is growing.
There are a lot of brilliant magazines and blogs out there and it also makes it easier to keep going.
Some of those blogs and magazines are listed on the home page of Hoofbeat Online so don’t be shy to check them out too.
Cheers Hanna 😸
